Frequently asked: “My wheels are never really clean on the inside — normal brushes just can’t reach the spokes or get behind the rim lip. Is there a brush that actually pulls it off without scratching the finish?”
The Meguiar's SUPREME Wheel Brush Angled is a professional wheel brush with an angled head — built to clean the spots that straight brushes or sponges simply can’t reach. Behind the rim lip, between the spokes, around valves and centre caps: everywhere brake dust and road grime build up over weeks and months, the SUPREME Wheel Brush Angled gets there without a fight. The soft, dense bristles protect the wheel surface from scratches at the same time — whether it’s an alloy, chrome or painted sport wheel. For 25.89 EUR you get a cleaning tool that shouldn’t be missing from any serious detailing kit.
Detailing1's tip from the shop: Always use the SUPREME Wheel Brush Angled together with a good wheel cleaner — running the brush dry over dirty wheels wrecks the bristles and just smears brake dust around. Spray on wheel cleaner, let it dwell for a moment, then feed the brush in and scrub from the inside out with circular strokes. Rinse thoroughly with water afterwards, before the cleaner dries onto the wheel surface. After the session, rinse the brush under clean water and stand it up to dry — that stretches the life of the bristles noticeably.
Wheels are among the dirtiest parts of the car — and at the same time the hardest to clean. Brake dust, tar, road grime and salt residue don’t just settle on the visible outer face; they work their way deep inside the wheel, behind the brake drum, between the spokes and along the rim lip. Tackle those areas with a normal sponge or a plain round brush and you’ll clean the outer face at best — the rest you never even touch.
This is exactly where the angled tool comes in. The angle gives you an access geometry that straight brushes simply lack: you feed the brush into the wheel, twist it slightly, and the head sits flat against the surface even behind the rim lip. The result is a complete clean — not just the visible outer face, but the whole wheel barrel.
Thorough wheel cleaning has a practical side too: brake dust is chemically aggressive and carries metallic particles that, left in contact long enough, eat into the wheel coating and leave corrosive spots. Clean your wheels consistently and you protect the coating and hold the car’s value over the long run. So a good cleaning tool isn’t just a convenience — it’s a safeguard for the wheel itself.
Cars with performance brake systems — bigger rotors, multi-piston calipers, wider calipers — throw off far more brake dust than standard brakes. If you look after a sportier car, you’ll be cleaning the wheels more often and you need a brush that works reliably even where access behind caliper and rotor is tight.
Prep: clean the car in the shade or under an overcast sky — wheel cleaner sprayed onto hot wheels dries too fast and can leave spots. The wheel shouldn’t be hot when you start, so give it enough time to cool down after driving.
Step 1 — apply wheel cleaner: spray a suitable wheel cleaner evenly over the whole wheel surface, including the barrel and the inner face. Depending on how dirty it is, let it dwell for one to three minutes — the cleaner breaks down brake dust and organic grime first, so the brush needs less mechanical effort.
Step 2 — clean the inside with the brush: feed the SUPREME Wheel Brush Angled into the wheel and reach behind the rim lip with the angled head. Work from the inside out with circular or scrubbing strokes. Use the angle of the brush — don’t fight the geometry, work with it. Run each spoke from both sides.
Step 3 — outer face and tyre sidewall: use the outside of the brush for the outer face of the wheel. Then clean the tyre sidewall with the brush or a separate tyre brush — tyre cleaner lifts rubber greying and preps the surface for tyre dressing.
Step 4 — rinse: rinse thoroughly with clean water before the wheel cleaner dries on. Rinse the wheel from top to bottom. Once rinsed, let the wheel dry or wipe it down with a dedicated wheel towel.
Step 5 — wheel care: after cleaning, it pays to apply a wheel sealant or tyre dressing to prep the surface for next time. Sealed wheels pick up less brake dust and come clean far faster on the next wash.
The SUPREME Wheel Brush Angled suits every common wheel type: clear-coated alloys, polished alloys, steel wheels, chrome wheels and painted sport wheels. The soft bristles make sure none of those surfaces take damage from the mechanical cleaning.
It’s especially at home on wheels with a deep dish and tight spoke gaps, the kind you often find on sports and premium cars. The tighter the spoke pattern, the harder the access — and the more useful the angled head becomes. On multi-spoke wheels with 10 or more spokes, working precisely with a dedicated brush is all but essential.
For cars with big calipers — say multi-piston sport brakes or fixed calipers — that take up a lot of room behind the wheel, the SUPREME Wheel Brush Angled brings another advantage: the angled head guides around the caliper and reaches spots a straight brush handle simply hides.
Compared with plain round brushes or sponges for wheels, the SUPREME Wheel Brush Large — the straight version — and the SUPREME Wheel Brush Angled give you two tools that complement each other for a complete wheel clean. The straight brush is ideal for cleaning spokes from the front and for larger flat areas of the wheel. The angled version handles the areas behind the rim lip and deep in the barrel. If you’re after maximum thoroughness, running both brushes together is the way to go.
Against cheaper wheel brushes without an angled head, the SUPREME Wheel Brush Angled delivers a far more complete clean — not just on the visible outer face, but deep inside the wheel. For cars driven regularly over long distances or in city stop-and-go traffic — so a heavy brake-dust load — that thoroughness isn’t a luxury, it’s a must for long-term wheel protection.
The Meguiar's Wheel Brightener makes the perfect partner for this brush — the wheel cleaner activates on metal surfaces and lifts brake dust especially well, so the mechanical work for the brush stays minimal and the result comes out maximal.
After every use, rinse the brush thoroughly under clean water until there’s no wheel cleaner and no dirt left in the bristles. The bristles spread easily with your fingers, which helps free trapped grime between the fibres. Stand the brush up to dry, or with the head pointing up — that stops moisture pooling where the bristles meet the handle and turning into mould or rot in the bristle binding.
Don’t use it with aggressive cleaning agents or strongly alkaline wheel cleaners the bristles aren’t built for. The SUPREME Wheel Brush Angled is designed for everyday wheel cleaners — if you’re using very strong, acidic specialist cleaners, follow the manufacturer’s guidance.
The angled head opens up access to areas straight brushes can’t reach — behind the rim lip, deep in the barrel, around calipers. The angle bridges the geometric limit created by the tyre, the rim lip and the caliper.
No — the bristle material is made specifically for wheel surfaces. Soft, dense bristles lift dirt without mechanically damaging clear coat, high-gloss polish or chrome. Important: don’t use the brush dry on the wheel — always wet it with wheel cleaner or water.
All common wheel types: alloys, steel wheels, chrome wheels, painted sport wheels. Especially handy on wheels with a deep dish, tight spoke gaps or big calipers, where getting into the wheel barrel is tricky.
Rinse it thoroughly under clean water, spread the bristles to free trapped grime, and stand it up to dry. Don’t store it together with other chemical cleaners or solvents that could attack the bristles.
For maximum thoroughness, both brushes together are the way to go: the Large for spoke cleaning and flat outer areas, the Angled for the wheel barrel behind rim lip and caliper. If you only want one, decide by your wheel type — on deep-dish wheels the Angled is the better start.
Not sure about Meguiars SUPREME Wheel Brush Angled? Get it explained:
The angled brush head allows access to areas that cannot be reached with straight brushes — behind the rim flange, deep in the wheel barrel, and around brake calipers. The angle overcomes the geometric limitations caused by tires, rim flanges, and brake calipers.
No — the brush material is explicitly designed for rim surfaces. Soft, dense bristles remove dirt without mechanical damage to clear coats, high-gloss polishes, or chrome surfaces. Important: do not use dry on the rim.
For all common rim types: alloy wheels, steel wheels, chrome wheels, painted sports wheels. Particularly advantageous for deep dishes, narrow spoke spacing, or large brake calipers.
Rinse thoroughly under clear water, spread bristles, let dry upright. Do not bring into contact with solvents.
For maximum thoroughness, both are recommended in combination: The Large for spoke cleaning and flat outer areas, the Angled for the interior of the rim behind the rim flange and brake caliper.
