What is the GYEON Q²M TireCleaner? An alkaline tyre cleaner that pulls old dressings, road grime and bled-out antiozonants out of the rubber sidewall and preps the tyre for fresh care or a tyre coating. Not for alloy wheels, painted surfaces or plain blackening without a dressing afterwards.

GYEON Q²M TireCleaner is an alkaline tyre cleaner from GYEON that chemically lifts bled-out rubber protectant and old care layers out of the porous sidewall. The alkaline formula (pH around 12) breaks down the silicone-oil and wax content of common tyre dressings, and at the same time dissolves the brown-yellow antiozonants that the rubber sweats to the surface as UV protection.

What you're left with is a residue-free base where a dressing or a tyre coating like the GYEON Q² TireExpress bonds evenly — no cloudiness, no patchiness, and no fresh care sliding off again after a couple of days.

• Dissolves brown bleed instead of hiding it. The yellow-brown haze on neglected tyres isn't dirt, it's antiozonant — a wax the rubber sweats out for UV protection. A dressing just covers that layer and peels off along with it. The TireCleaner lifts it out chemically, so your next dressing actually sits on the rubber.
• The prep step before any tyre coating. Every tyre-coating maker assumes a residue-free sidewall. Silicone oils from cheap dressings and hardened road film block the covalent bond of the coating molecules. Skip the clean prep and a two-figure coating price lasts a few weeks instead of the promised months.
• Works on all common tyre rubbers. Summer, winter, all-season, SUV, motorbike — as long as it's black rubber, it takes the TireCleaner. Not for: whitewall tyres, painted rims where the spray hits, plastic wheel-arch liners straight in the firing line. Mask those off first or neutralise them right away.

Detailing1's tip from the shop: Always go BEFORE the wheel cleaner. Do the rims first and wheel cleaner runs down onto the tyre — and neutralises part of the alkaline action. Order of play: pre-clean the tyres, clean the rims, rinse it all off together, dry, then dress or coat. Work on a hand-warm tyre, never in full sun — otherwise the product dries on and leaves streaks you'll only get off with a second pass.

Dry tyre. 60 seconds. Brush to finish.

Spray the TireCleaner onto the dry, hand-warm tyre — generously, until the sidewall is visibly wetted and the product foams up a little. That foaming is normal and tells you the alkaline reaction with the surfactants and old care residue has kicked off.

After about a minute of dwell time, a tyre brush takes over the mechanical work. Work in circular motions along the whole sidewall, including the narrow strip between tyre and rim flange — that's where most of the hardened grime hides. The chemistry alone lifts the surface film; the brush pulls the loosened material out of the pores in the rubber, where antiozonants have built up over several months.

Then rinse off with a strong jet of water until it runs clear. Let the tyre drip for 2 to 3 minutes — only once the sidewall looks matt dark-grey instead of glossy-wet is the surface ready for your dressing or coating. Glossy-wet means standing water in the pores, and that thins out whatever dressing goes on next.

A common mistake: longer dwell times don't clean any deeper. After roughly 1 to 2 minutes the reaction is done, and after that the product just dries on. If a tyre is badly neglected, a second short pass always beats one long first one — same as with wheel cleaner.

Dressings and antiozonants it dissolves. Tar it doesn't.

Silicone-oil tyre care, wax dressings and bled-out antiozonants are the TireCleaner's home turf — here it works reliably and residue-free. The alkaline pH breaks the bonds between care oil and rubber without making the rubber itself brittle. That's the key difference from solvent cleaners, which do lift dressings too, but pull the plasticisers out of the rubber while they're at it.

As a second job, the TireCleaner has also proven itself day-to-day on plastic wheel-arch liners where old dressing haze is sitting. Quick spray, work it in with a soft brush, rinse straight off — and the plastic takes a plastic dressing cleanly again afterwards. Important: on plastic let it dwell for seconds only, not minutes.

Where the TireCleaner isn't the right product: baked-on tar, bitumen splatter and asphalt residue don't react with alkalis. For that you need a solvent-based tar remover you spot-spray, not blanket the tyre with. Whitewall tyres are off-limits too — the white compound reacts to alkaline cleaners with yellowing that can't be undone.

If you're after plain blackening with no care afterwards, you're in the wrong place as well. A TireCleaner cleans — it doesn't dress. After cleaning the tyre looks matt and slightly greyish, because the dissolved care layer is gone. That's intended, but it's only step one. If you want safety and long-term durability, pair TireCleaner with a tyre coating. If you want quick black gloss and don't plan to coat long term, a simple tyre dressing after cleaning is enough.

The prep step before the coating

The TireCleaner isn't a weekend care product, it's a deep prep clean. You reach for it when a tyre's been neglected for a while, when you're building a new dressing system, or when you want to lay down a tyre coating like the GYEON Q² TireExpress. For the normal fortnightly car wash, a standard shampoo plus fresh dressing is plenty.

It's at its strongest as prep for a tyre coating. Any coating only bonds reliably when the rubber sidewall is open. Silicone oil from previous products seals the pores and blocks the covalent bond. The TireCleaner opens that layer chemically and makes the tyre coating-ready in the first place. Plenty of people skip this step, then wonder why an expensive coating is gone after 3 weeks instead of the promised 12 months.

As a full solution, you pair the TireCleaner with a tyre care product or a tyre coating. The clean sequence goes: deep-clean the tyres with TireCleaner, treat the rims separately with a wheel cleaner, wash the car, chamois it dry, then apply dressing or coating. With a coating, plan 24 hours to cure before the car goes back on the road — otherwise you'll wash the not-yet-cured layer off again in the first rain.

For the wallet it works out like this: a 500 ml bottle of TireCleaner does around 80 to 120 tyre deep-cleans depending on tyre width. At 4 tyres per car, that's 20 to 30 full-car deep-cleans. If you deep-clean your car twice a year and otherwise care for it normally, one bottle lasts several years — or covers a 6-month season at roughly one car a week.

The tyre MUST be hand-warm or cooler. If you want to clean straight after a longer drive, wait at least 30 minutes or cool the tyres down with water before you reach for the TireCleaner.

Get that into your head once — cold tyre, short dwell time, brush for backup, second pass on heavy soiling — and you'll work cleaner for good, while extending the life of every dressing and coating you lay down afterwards. The TireCleaner isn't a beauty product, it's a foundation. Everything that comes after lasts as long as the base was clean.

Application of GYEON Q²M TireCleaner

Basic Cleaning before Dressing and Coating

Spray the TireCleaner undiluted onto the dry, lukewarm tire — generously, until the entire sidewall is visibly wetted and the product slightly foams. Wet tires dilute the formula and weaken the reaction; hot tires after highway driving will cause the product to dry before it can take effect. After driving, wait at least 30 minutes or cool the tires with water.

After about 1 minute of dwell time, a stiff tire brush performs the mechanical work. Work in circular motions over the entire sidewall, including the narrow zone between the tire and the rim flange — this is where most of the ingrained dirt is located. The chemicals dissolve the surface film, and the brush removes residues from the rubber pores. Longer dwell time does not lead to deeper cleaning, because the reaction is complete after 1 to 2 minutes.

Rinse thoroughly with a strong jet of water from top to bottom until the water runs clear. Then let it drip dry for 2 to 3 minutes — only when the sidewall looks matte dark grey instead of glossy wet is the surface ready for absorption. For heavily neglected tires, a second short pass is always more effective than an extended dwell time on the first. Finally, apply a dressing or a tire coating such as the GYEON Q² TireExpress.

Order in practice: first, thoroughly clean the tires with TireCleaner, then clean the rims separately, wash the vehicle, dry it — and only then dress or coat. If you clean the rim first, rim cleaner will run over the tire and neutralize part of the alkaline effect. For coating, allow 24 hours for curing before the vehicle is exposed to rain again.

Notes: TireCleaner does not react with baked-on tar or bitumen — for this, you need a solvent-based tar remover that you spray locally, not over the entire tire. Whitewall tires are a no-go; the white compound will irreversibly yellow with alkaline cleaners. Do not work in direct sunlight or at temperatures above 25 °C, otherwise the product will dry and leave streaks. Wear protective gloves and eye protection; in case of skin or eye contact, rinse with clear water. Store in a dark, frost-free place between 5 and 25 °C, unopened shelf life of at least 24 months. Store spray bottle with the head facing upwards to prevent the pump mechanism from clogging.
