GYEON Q²M WaterSpot is an acidic water spot remover from GYEON that works with a mild phosphoric acid formulation: The solution chemically reacts with calcium and magnesium carbonates from dried hard and rainwater and converts them into water-soluble salts, which can be wiped off without residue with a microfiber cloth. The product pH is around 2 and is formulated with lubricating oil carriers that prevent marring on the paint surface during application.

This approach fundamentally distinguishes Q²M WaterSpot from mechanical polishing. Limescale spots are removed purely chemically, without paint removal, without holograms, and without risk to thin clear coat layers. This is particularly important on OEM paints, where the clear coat layer is often only 40 to 60 µm thick and any polishing means measurable material removal. The oil component in the product is no coincidence, but a protective function: it encapsulates the dissolved mineral particles and prevents the acid solution itself from leaving micro-scratches when wiping.

• Acidic phosphoric acid active formula on paint and glass. The product pH of around 2 chemically dissolves calcium carbonate within 30 seconds. For fresh rain spot residues, a single application is sufficient; for dried limescale spots after two to three weeks, apply a second pass directly to the still damp surface — this is significantly more effective than an extended dwell time on the first application.

Practical tip from Detailing1: The most common mistake is applying to warm or sun-exposed paint. The lubricating oil component dries in seconds, and you wipe off oil streaks instead of dissolved limescale. Always work in the shade, at a paint temperature below 25 °C, and never leave the product on for longer than 30 seconds. After wiping, follow with a second pass with an alcohol degreaser or pH-neutral wash to remove oil components — otherwise, you'll create a dirt-attracting surface.

Cool paint. 30 seconds. No longer.

On warm paint or in direct sunlight, the lubricating oil component dries in seconds, and you wipe off oil streaks instead of dissolved limescale. Q²M WaterSpot requires a washed, dried, and cool surface — then the acid reaction starts evenly. Spray directly onto the limescale spots from a distance of about 15 to 20 centimeters, one to two sprays per panel (about 15 ml).

The maximum dwell time is 30 seconds, not a second longer. Then wipe off with a soft, clean microfiber cloth in one direction. A common misconception in practice is the idea that longer dwell time would better dissolve stubborn spots. The opposite is true: after 45 seconds, the phosphoric acid solution begins to dry, and the lubricating oil component no longer wipes off evenly.

For stubborn or slightly dried water spots, work in two passes: wipe off the first application after 30 seconds, then immediately spray a second layer on the same spot and wipe off after 30 seconds as well. The second pass takes place on the chemically pre-treated surface and dissolves residues that the first pass did not catch.

Finally, rinse the treated area with clear water or wipe with a second microfiber cloth and some shampoo water. This post-cleaning is not optional, but an integral part of the workflow: Q²M WaterSpot leaves a thin oil film that attracts dust and pollen until it is washed off. For larger applications on multiple panels, direct transition to a full wash in our pre-cleaner category is worthwhile; for targeted stain removal, a damp second wipe is sufficient.

Phosphoric acid dissolves limescale. Waxes, unfortunately, too.

Anyone who maintains their vehicle with carnauba wax or spray wax loses their own protective layer with every WaterSpot application — the acidic pH of about 2 attacks every organic sealant. However, the product works reliably on evaporated hard and rainwater, chemically converting calcium and magnesium carbonates into water-soluble salts that can be wiped off the paint in one pass.

This is the real dividing line for the purchase decision. Silicate-based ceramic coatings from GYEON are chemically so stable that they can withstand contact with phosphoric acid at pH 2 for 30 seconds without damage — this is one of the advantages for which the coating was originally installed. Carnauba wax layers, synthetic sealants, and hybrid wax coatings cannot withstand this stress and are partially or completely dissolved.

The result is not paint damage, but a rebuilding of the protective layer. If you maintain your vehicle with a spray wax every three months, every WaterSpot application means: water spots gone, wax layer gone, reapply wax. This step is omitted with active ceramic coatings because the coating remains.

The clear limits: Burnt-in limescale spots after months of neglect are often no longer completely soluble chemically — calcium has worked its way into the clear coat there, and only a light finish polish will remove the rest. WaterSpot is considered safe for glass surfaces; for hardened water spots on the windshield, a specialized glass cleaner with sealant or a glass polish is the cleaner tool. For coating owners in hard water regions.

In hard water regions, limescale rings eat into your coating surface in a few weeks — and the longer you wait, the deeper they embed themselves in the clear coat. Especially the south, Franconia, and large parts of Saxony-Anhalt with water hardness above 14 °dH produce these traces: the hydrophobic layer beads water, but does not always let it drain completely, and residual water dries at the lowest point of a drop. Q²M WaterSpot is the routine that stops these traces before they can only be polished out.

The product is also useful for anyone who lets their car dry outside after washing due to lack of a garage. If residual water evaporates in the sun, characteristic water spots remain that can no longer be removed with shampoo. Here, WaterSpot provides the chemical solution for which one would otherwise have to use polishing paste.

WaterSpot is less suitable for care profiles with carnauba wax, spray waxes, or hybrid sealants as the primary protective layer. In this setup, each application dissolves the protective layer itself — the opposite of what one uses a wax for. For these users, a detailing clay is a better choice. The product is also unsuitable for freshly applied coatings: before the 7-day curing phase has expired, the coating can be partially damaged.

Regarding the choice of container size: The 500 ml bottle is sufficient for about 30 applications with targeted use — the right start for private ceramic detailers with one to two vehicles. The 1-liter bottle pays off from the second vehicle or for commercial detailing. Store frost-free between 5 and 30 °C, durable for 24 months after opening.

The strongest lever from Detailing1 practice is the sequence — and most people do it wrong. Do not use Q²M WaterSpot at the end of a wash, but directly before: first treat the limescale spots selectively, then carry out the complete wash with GYEON Q²M Prep or pH-neutral shampoo. The wash water rinses out the lubricating oil residues of the phosphoric acid in one step — you save the degreaser pass and your coating only experiences one friction instead of two. Step-by-step to a spot-free paint finish

Wash the vehicle completely with a pH-neutral shampoo and dry with a drying towel or compressed air. The surface must be clean and cool for the phosphoric acid reaction to start evenly and for the oil component not to dry on residual dirt. Never apply in direct sunlight or on paint surfaces that are still warm after driving — paint temperature below 25 °C.

Spray Q²M WaterSpot directly onto the affected limescale spots from a distance of about 15 to 20 centimeters, one to two sprays per paint panel (approx. 15 ml).
